Audit your way of working with AI
Practicum for Chapter 8, "Cognitive Debt." Version: 2026-06-20. Time: 5 to 7 minutes. Use a real working week. The mode describes a task, not you as a person.
There are three modes:
- Cyborg: You work with the model and keep challenging its choices.
- Centaur: You divide the work in advance. Some parts go to the machine, and some stay with you.
- Self-automator: You hand over the entire task and leave the decision loop.
The goal is to find where you left the loop and step back into it.
Step 1. Three typical tasks from your week
Use the same tasks from the usefulness level self-check if you completed it.
____________________________________________________________________________________
Step 2. Three questions for each task
| Question | Task 1 | Task 2 | Task 3 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Did I stay inside the decision process? | |||
| Did I give AI one part or the whole process? | |||
| Did my skill improve afterward? |
Step 3. Mark the mode
Label each task cyborg / centaur / self-automator. The amount of AI use does not decide the label. What matters is whether a human stayed in the loop.
| Task | Mode |
|---|---|
| 1 | |
| 2 | |
| 3 |
Step 4. Make one shift
Choose one self-automated task. Add some productive friction from Training, not answers, or repeat the task without AI.
- Task:
____________-> What I will change:____________________________
Step 5. Identify training tasks
Mark the tasks that build judgment, taste, diagnosis, explanation, or responsibility. Do not hand these tasks to AI in full.

Move this list to the Task-to-Outcome Map, under "training tasks," and to the integrated profession audit map for Chapter 9.
